Bay opened the door dropping his backpack on the tile foyer floor. “I’m home!” He called into the silence, the family room dark and empty.

“Good,” A voice came from somewhere deeper in the apartment.

Bay sighed kicking off his shoes, walking through the lit arch in front of him into the kitchen. Blaze was sitting at the table, he glanced up at him from his computer screen.

“Dinner’s in the microwave,” He typed a few things going back to what he was doing.

“Thanks,” Bay went to move past him, Blaze reached out grabbing him by his wrist looking at the cut on his hand with a frown.

“How did this happen?”

“A girl cut me with her bracelet or something.”

Blaze let go of his hand unconvinced, “What, was it covered in razers? It looks pretty irritated.”

Bay glanced at it. The line was still very thin, but it had grown red and raised, “I don’t know why, I cleaned it several times.”

His older brother stood going to the cabinet over the refrigerator, “Did you see her face?”

“Yeah, but she didn’t look any different than any of the other girls there.”

Blaze pulled the first aid kit out pointing at the chair across from where he had been sitting, “You didn’t pick up anything?”

Bay sat where he was directed, letting his brother have his hand, “Not a thing.”

“Hmm,” Blaze opened the box pulling out the isotopic alcohol and a few Q-tips, “I don’t like it.”

Bay smiled, “But you don’t like anything.”

Blaze looked up at him bemused, “I guess so. Nonetheless, there is just something that doesn’t feel right about it.”

“It was really crowded. I don’t think it means anything.”

Blaze lifted the cut examining it more thoroughly. When he had finished he lifted it to his nose, closing his eyes, and taking in a deep breath.

“Catch anything.”

“No, but I still don’t like it,” He began cleaning out the wound, “You should be more careful.”

“It might not appear so, but I am trying. Really hard actually.”

“I’m sure you are,” He let his hand go when he had finished, handing him the debris left behind, “Throw those away.”

“Fine,” Bay stood, tossing them in the trash before getting his dinner out of the microwave.

It wasn’t anything special, there was a lump of white rice, some asparagus, and some barely cooked steak. Bay preferred it well done, but Blaze liked it practically alive. Bay being too lazy to cook for himself at the moment found it his own fault he was eating it as it was. He couldn’t complain when his brother didn’t have to go to the trouble to cook for him.

Bay took the chair he had vacated smiling at his brother as he set his plate down on the table, “You know you could always cook mine longer than yours.”

Blaze began to type something, “Just be grateful and say thank you.”

Bay looked at the food stabbing one of the still bloody pieces of meat, “Thank you. By the way, have you read the book I gave you?”

“No, not yet, I haven’t really had much time.
